Responsible Climbing

Safety Guidelines

Rock Climbing involves certain risks and climbers are expected to be responsible enough to ensure safety. It is necessary to follow these Rock Climbing safety guidelines.

Be considerate to climbers, land owners, and other users. Ask permission if you want to climb occupied camp sites. Check out land owner’s privileges and follow regulations.

Learn to wait for your turn. Do not pressure other climbers to rush with their climb. Do other things that will catch your attention while you wait for your turn.

Be honest. Do not mislead other climbers about the features of a route. Climbing is risky and leading them in a wrong direction can be dangerous.

Be careful about sharing routes. Be sure of the safety system’s security before engaging in a climb. Remember, it is better to take precautionary measures to protect you from possible danger.

Keep your eyes open and help in an emergency situation. Acting quickly and calmly can help save lives.

Environmental Protection and Preservation

Climbers are said to be one of the most environmentally friendly user groups. They help in keeping a good environment and they know how to follow rules. Here are some specific principles when rock climbing.

Clean out your trash before leaving the area. Foods, chalk, and wrappers should be properly disposed. Leave your area cleaner than when you found it.

One should use removable protection. As much as possible, avoid using bolts and pitons which can permanently change the rock.

In developing a new route, try considering the effects it will have on the environment.

Do not chip or drill holds.

Use a chalk color that blends in with rock. Brush it off after sessions to minimize its visual effects on rocks.

Keep the noise down and be sensitive to the solitude enjoyed by other people around you.

If you are climbing all day and require relief (you know what I mean!!!), please think of others, and where hands may be put, and dispose of cleanly and safely.

If you are into Rock Climbing, make sure to help preserve the environment. Follow these simple guidelines and always be on the safe side.
